Ronnie is the Chief Canine here at the Best Western Plus Waterbury-Stowe, and Melissa is our General Manager. Ronnie is Melissa’s special hearing dog.
"He Makes Me Feel So Safe" - Melissa
Melissa was born with hearing loss in both ears, creating tonal deafness. Unlike most of us, she is not able to hear sounds like bells, alarms, or sirens. That means that if there is an emergency, Melissa could miss the warning signals. Ronnie helps Melissa “hear” by alerting her when he detects a high-pitched noise.
Ronnie Comes from an Organization Called NEADS
Ronnie is a Yellow Lab. He comes from a non-profit organization based in Massachusetts called NEADS World Class Service Dogs. NEADS trains a wide variety of service and assistance dogs for people with physical challenges and hearing loss, as well as veterans and children.
Ronnie, Chief Canine
Ronnie came to live with Melissa in the spring of 2020. He goes everywhere with Melissa, including to work, which is how he got the title Chief Canine here at the hotel. Ronnie has already convinced Melissa to allow dogs at the hotel. Ask about our dog-friendly rooms, and maybe next time you come, your “best friend” can meet Ronnie, too!
